What is the value of human life in third world Africa?
A few hours ago, I was discussing the issue of the rescue operation of the miners in Chile with a senior colleague and a mate. The senior colleague is both a safety crusader and philanthropic especially in the area of road safety in an African nation. He was so excited and emotional at the intelligence employed in the rescue operations of the miners. He compared their actions and activities following the rescue to the experiences of safety in the nation he lives in. He mentioned that rescue operations of felled structures similar to the mine in the nation he lives in was carried out with bulldozers and the senior officials in leadership donot show any sympathy nor empathy. The bulldozer action would all but confirm the certain demise of everyone trapped underneath the rubble.
Now Chile is also a third world country but by the submission in our discussion, it appeared that they have more understanding of the value of a human life and the need to preserve that life than their counterparts in third world Africa.
Why do Africans have no value for the life of their kind?
Poor organizational structures in Public Institutions makes planning and execution of safety enlightenment and rescues non-existing and badly implemented when a caricature is found. In such nations, roads have no signs or are inadequately marked and represented, rescue gadgets and vehicles do not exist because officials are likely to have used the funds allocated for such for personal agendas, fire trucks will not have easy access to refilled their trucks with water, experts in the areas of construction are too callous to remember to include safety measures in their construction plan because they were underpaid for the project or the bank loan interest repayment gives them headache and insomnia, the public themselves pay little attention to their on lives and safety.
It is time for the people of such nations to rise up and take responsibility for their own lives. It is time for the people of these countries to pay attention, study and learn to be safe everywhere!
